| WELCOME! Come look around, meet our practitioners, read about bodywork styles, see the many ways we can help you and the people you care about, and feel free to call anytime: (650) 333-1433. Special Offers This Month Balancenter Offers Both Advanced Bodywork AND Massage: The Difference? A runner called needing"Advanced Bodywork" to rehab a post-surgical knee so she could run again, as soon as possible. She wanted to know why our rates were higher for “Massage” than other spas. It’s because she was comparing Spa Massage rates with Advanced Bodywork rates. The difference? Sometimes we need "Massage." Swedish, effleurage, energy work, shiatsu, hot stone… often we want Deep Pressure Massage (often called “deep tissue”), a strong not a light touch, but it’s still Massage. We’re tired, stressed, need to relax, want to pamper ourselves, maybe need to emotionally settle down and regroup. Massage can relieve tension, sore muscles and things like mild tension headaches, and usually runs somewhere between $70 and $140 per hour. Balancenter offers Massage for $100 per hour, see Rates. Other times we need "Bodywork." We need someone with the background and experience of a broad-based bodywork practitioner; someone with a more extensive background in anatomy, physiology and other disciplines, who can evaluate our movement restrictions and who knows what stretches and exercises to teach us to regain our range of motion and rebalance our posture. We need someone who can treat the deeper structures, the scar-tissue and trigger-points that cause our pain whether it’s a knee or shoulder, a headache, a chronic illness or an old football injury. Bodyworkers usually run $100-$200 per hour but they get you back to working or playing the way you need to. Balancenter offers Advanced Bodywork for $120 per hour, see our Rates page. Massage Therapists and Bodywork practitioners are both intuitive. Advanced Bodyworkers combine Massage with other techniques, other disciplines. They’ll often have specializations with names like Reiki, Feldencrais, Rolfing, Alexander, Anat Binel… and often have training themselves in movement modalities like dance, running or martial arts. Bodyworkers often combine Massage with movement evaluation, personal training, facilitated stretching and clinical deep tissue work. Sometimes you just need a massage. Other times you have pain, posture or emotional challenges to overcome with someone who can guide you through the process. We can help you with either. |
